Improvement of warping machines’ productivity rate

One important textile company being supplied by Quimisa, processing fabrics and yarns, was having problems with their warping machines: the productivity rate was low (50 to 65%) because of too much downtime due to disrupted yarns. On top of that, an analysis was made of the yarn friction rate, which resulted in a significantly high value, i.e., above 0,5 rpm, where this is the highest rate in the measurement scale. The higher the number, the worst the friction rate.

Upon such condition, the Quimisa’s technician recommended the use of a softener, which purpose was to make dyed and bleached yarns smoother to reduce the friction to a rate between 0,2 and 0,3. Two tests were carried out: The first one was carried out on bleached yarns, which were soaked in 6,0% of Quimisoft PP 153  for 20 minutes at 50ºC and pH 6,5 and, the second one was carried out on dyed yarns, which were soaked in 5,0 % Quimisoft PP 153 for 20 minutes at 50ºC and pH 6,5. After the yarns were dried, they were sent to the Senai’s laboratory for friction rate testing.

The bleached yarn showed a friction rate of 0,5 rpm while the dyed yarn showed a friction rate of 0,2 rpm. Based on these results, the finishing was changed according to the above-mentioned recipes and for one year now, all tests being carried out on the warping machines are reaching an excellent productivity rate between 90% and 100%.
